Salvador Dali, born Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali, was one of the greatest surrealist artists of his time. He was born on May 11, 1904, in the small Spanish town of Figueras. He lived in the United States of America during the 1940s and 1950s. It was here that he developed his eccentric personality and exaggerated persona. One of his greatest heroes was Sigmund Freud. He was fascinated by his writings on dreams and on the unconscious. In the 1930s, he dedicated himself to the building up of the surrealist movement in Europe.
Salvador Dali’s works are numerous – from prints to paintings, designing jewelry to book illustrations and sculpting, it seems like he has done it all.
After having lived in the United States, he returned to Spain in 1955 and spent the next 35 years here, falling deeper into the life of a recluse, until his death in 1989.
